PRESS RELEASE
ZAMBEEF
SUBSIDIARY COMPANY EXCELS IN NIGERIA
ZAMBEEF’s subsidiary company
in Nigeria, Master Meats, has recorded an outstanding sales growth
of over US$600,000 in its first six months of operation in that
country.
This good performance has
been attributed to the good response from the local market and the
attractive presentation of meat products never experienced before in
that country.
The South African
supermarket giant, Shoprite Checkers, set up operations in Nigeria
and invited Zambeef Products PLC to partner with it and run the
butcheries. This was on the back of a very successful partnership
working over the last 10 years between Zambeef and Shoprite across
all 18 Shoprite butcheries in Zambia.
Zambeef Products PLC is a
Zambian registered company with all its shares fully listed on the
Lusaka Stock Exchange. With the set-up of the Nigerian subsidiary,
Zambeef Products PLC has become a truly Zambian multi-national
corporate where all the benefits of its overseas operations will
flow back to Zambia.
Zambeef’s Nigerian
operations were originally set-up and are now being managed by three
employees from Zambia, namely Ebrahim Israel, John Stevenson and
Ohimai Mukanda. Both John and Ohimai are Zambian citizens and it is
encouraging to see Zambian expertise being a success in Nigeria.
The reception accorded to
the first Shoprite Checkers store by the Nigerian public has been
overwhelming.
Lagos alone has an estimated
population of 20 million people while the whole of Nigeria’s
population is estimated at 190 million people.
Zambeef and Shoprite have
identified Nigeria as a key African market and confident that the
operation will be a resounding success, in view of Nigeria being
Africa’s second biggest economy after South Africa.
